Europæisk skulptur
The visual arts story of man in body and soul was a crucial element in Glyptoteket’s founder Carl Jacobsen’s art perception. The narrative content could then also be set as the common denominator of the works in this volume in the catalog series, as widely different as they are. The tie includes European sculpture for three centuries, from Johan Tobias Segel to Max Klinger. The acquisition of these sculptures has occurred in the period 1880 to 1910, and for the most part it is a matter of brewer’s own purchase. The collection today counts well eight’s numbers, and here they are gathered in chronological order. Thus, in miniature, one can follow the evolution of European sculptor art from neoclassicalism to early modernism.
